MHRYN Programs & Activities
1. GOVERNANCE AND HUMAN RIGHTS
MHRYN recognizes that a right is an entitlement and as such since youth are right holders they can demand it. Since participation and inclusion are some of the fundamental principles on which all human rights are based, this implies that youth as human beings must have a say in things that affect them. Just like any other person, they should therefore not be excluded from the decisions, processes events and actions that have an impact on their lives.
The network focuses on strengthening community structures that address and protect human rights. The Malawi Human Rights Youth Network has an essential role to play in promoting good governance.
Being an umbrella institution representing various human rights nongovernmental youth organizations in the country, the network advocates for respect and promotion of human rights and freedom through initiatives aimed at ensuring accountability and transparency in government.

2. CHILD AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT
The Malawi Human Rights youth Network realizes that youth and children are the agents of change and therefore need to be fully protected and empowered both socially and economically for them to contribute to development of the country.
Through this programme, MHRYN empowers children and youth to uplift social, economic and political life. This is achieved through youth and children capacity building, advocacy, lobbying, and awareness campaigns. Some of the programmes activities focus on youth entrepreneurship, business skills, internships, child protection, among others

3. HEALTH AND HIV/AIDS
Malawi Human Rights Youth Network (MHRYN) recognizes that HIV/AIDS is not only a medical problem but also a health issue. The youth have a right to good health. In this regard, MHRYN coordinates activities for the youth associations for marginalized groups including establishing and empowerment of associations of young people infected and affected by HIV/ AIDS. The MHRYN coordinates HIV/AIDS programs implemented by its affiliates targeting young people.

4. CLIMATE CHANGE AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
The MHRYN recognizes that youth as right holders have a right to a healthy environment. In that vein the network aims to facilitate the restoration, maintenance and enhancement of ecosystems and ecological processes essential for the functioning of biosphere and prudent use of renewable resources.
In addition, it also aims to prevent environmental degradation as well as promote sustainable utilization and management of the country’s natural resources and encourages, where appropriate long term self sufficiency in food, fuel wood and other energy requirements. In fulfilling the above, the network carries out initiatives in natural resources conservation, waste management and climate change adaptation.
