THYOLO YOUTH ORIENTATED IN BUDGET TRACKING AND MONITORING

From 12th to 14th January, 2016, the MHRYN conducted a Budget Tracking and Monitoring training in Thyolo under the “Youth Participation and Accountability in Local Government” project; which is being implemented with funding from the Department for International Development (DFID) through the National Democratic Institute (NDI); in three constituencies of Thyolo namely: Thyolo Thava, Thyolo Central and Thyolo North.

The training, facilitated by Mr. Chuthi from National Local Governance Finance Committee (NLGFC), targeted a total of 60 youth from the three respective constituencies; with the aim of building the capacity of these youth to monitor and track the District Council’s resources allocated to development projects in their local areas, particularly with regard to the priorities and needs of the youth. Following the training, it is expected that the youth will do Public Expenditure Tracking, by tracking and monitoring the local council’s budgets and the utilization of resources allocated to development projects. It is anticipated that the youth will become more informed in local governance systems, structures and processes; and that there will be increased positive working relationships at the district level between citizen groups and the district council as well as enhanced social accountability particularly in service delivery.
